Our Ask

Urban Canvas: From the Underground Up is at a pivotal stage in production. We have secured access to legendary pioneers including SEN-1 and CES, completed early production in New York and New Jersey, and established partnerships with youth programs and academic institutions across NYC, New Jersey, and the Mississippi Delta. The foundation is strong. Now we are focused on completion.
Why this film?
Graffiti is one of the most influential yet misunderstood cultural movements of the last half-century. Its pioneers are aging. Its early works are disappearing. Its next generation is navigating commercialization, criminalization, and cultural appropriation. This film preserves the voices, lineage, and lived realities of a community that reshaped global culture.
Why now?
We are at an inflection point. The architects of this movement are still here and willing to share their stories — but that window is closing. Neighborhoods are transforming. Murals are erased. Youth arts programs are under pressure. Capturing this intergenerational dialogue now is essential.
What we are seeking:
Support to complete U.S. production and move into post-production. Funding will directly support:
  • Remaining interviews with pioneers and emerging writers
  • Youth workshop filming in Harlem, New Jersey, and the Mississippi Delta
  • Production crew and equipment
  • Archival licensing and music clearance
  • Editing, sound design, and color
  • Domestic travel and essential operational costs
Stretch support will enable expanded international filming and enhanced educational distribution.
This is an opportunity to back a culturally significant, intergenerational documentary at a decisive moment. Your partnership will help preserve living history, amplify community voices, and bring an authentic graffiti narrative to global audiences.
